Brad Butt began training in 2006 shortly after finishing high school and moving on from football. What started as an interest in MMA quickly turned into a passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and before long he was training six days a week. By 2008, he was already teaching kids and adult classes. Over the years, Brad competed in numerous BJJ tournaments across Alberta and stepped into the cage for two professional MMA fights, earning a record of 1–1. In 2013, he joined Professor Rodrigo Resende, and Vanguard has been his home ever since. He was awarded his black belt in 2021 and became a professor in 2022.
At Vanguard, Brad brings both competitive experience and a long history of teaching to the mats. His classes emphasize hard work, discipline, and technical growth while maintaining the supportive environment that first drew him to Jiu-Jitsu. Students value his approachable style and the example he sets through consistent dedication.
For Brad, Jiu-Jitsu is more than training — it has shaped who he is and the lessons he passes on to his family. As a father, he is grateful to raise his sons in an academy community that not only teaches technique, but also instills character, respect, and resilience.
