Instructor, Black Belt 2nd-degree in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Biography
Sean Carr began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu nearly two decades ago, first stepping onto the mats after a friend convinced him to try a class. From the very beginning, he was struck by the effectiveness of the art and how skill could overcome size and strength. In 2009, Sean met Professor Rodrigo Resende and became one of his first students in Edmonton, training under him ever since.
At Vanguard, Sean teaches the Adult Program on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, where he brings a laid-back, welcoming style to the mats. His classes balance technical learning with a relaxed, fun atmosphere that encourages students to connect, build confidence, and enjoy their training.
Beyond instruction, Sean values the strong friendships formed on the mats and the positive role BJJ plays in his own life. A dedicated family man and father of two, he believes training should be both a social outlet and a way to stay healthy — a community where people support one another on their journey in Jiu-Jitsu.
